Studio Jagex, a game maker Jagex may be known for its huge Runescape range, but a lot of people might not be aware that the studio is expanding its
OSRS Gold offerings to include publishing, and even tabletop gaming.
Jagex recently announced that it has entered into a contract with indie developer Outlier Games to publish the studio's inaugural game, the spaceship management roguelike This Means Warp. The game is set to launch on PC via Steam Early Access on March 17.
Designed with multiplayer and replayability in mind, this Means Warp encourages players to play together and to think strategically in intense, combative space battles that are real-time and make smart decisions as they control their ship in an incredibly hostile, procedurally-generated universe.
Drawing inspiration from roguelikes such as FTL and party games such as Overcooked This Means Warp sees players control crew members on board the ship, operating various devices, shooting weapons, performing repairs, and eventually plotting a route through the tangled space.
For more information about Jagex's release of This Means Warp, we asked Outlier Games' founders Paul Froggatt and Matt Rathbun, as well as Lead Product Manager for Jagex Robert Fox-Galassi about their thoughts about this new partnership.
As with many indie developers, our entry into the games industry came from tinkering with game concepts and codes over a long time, and then finally putting together something that was playable!
I've got 10 years' work experience at Google before I made the decision to switch to game development full-time. Matt's career spans building Hollywood computer systems on movie sets
