The rules of face-to-face for hand was modified a few years ago. In the trenches of the war, you were typically allowed to punch a defender inside the helmet (more than the facemask) if you removed the hand as soon as contact was made. He was playing with a defense that was smaller and when he decides to punch his chest, his hands automatically rise up and make brief contact with the helmet of the defensive player. The incident was never previously reported and now it was. We all feared it would fundamentally change offensive line play.
When the regular season was about to begin, the calls disappeared. I'm pretty certain Mitch didn't get a ticket for one of them during the entire season. They weren't as often strictly enforced according to the rulebook and incidental contact to the helmet was ignored as a foul. A direct blow to the helmet was still lawful and playing in trenches didn't need to fundamentally change.
It's a long, winded method to say that I doubt the Madden NFL 23 is continuing to enforce this new helmet rule throughout the normal season. Could they be mistaken in calling it at any timing
