Crafting in The Elder Scrolls Online should not be taken lightly. Not only do you use valuable skill points to level up the crafting classes, but crafting in general is a lengthy process. You can shorten the crafting process by leveling up your skills, but that takes away skill points you could use for other classes. If you decide to take a crafting class seriously, prepare to invest some time and remember that it will take focus away from other classes. Crafting is a core part of The Elder Scrolls Online. You can certainly choose to avoid it — but you’ll be missing out on a lot of ESO Gold and tons of great gear. It’s also a great way to keep your equipment up to date and recycle unwanted loot.
There are six crafting professions available in ESO: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Clothing, Enchanting, Provisioning and Woodworking. Alchemists craft potions, Blacksmiths make heavy armor sets and metal-based weaponry, Clothiers create light and medium armor sets, Enchanters add stats to existing gear, Provisioners cook food items and Woodworkers craft wood-based weapons. Determine which profession you’d like to focus on and spend most of your time crafting in that profession. You can select more than one, and in some cases it’s beneficial, since certain aspects of crafting take a considerable amount of time. However, be mindful that you only have so many skill points to use.
Gathering resources
Before you can actually start crafting, you’ll need to venture out into the wild and collect the necessary resources. Ore, runes, ingredients, and everything else required for crafting can be freely collected by roaming the streets and dusty roads of Tamriel. However, you’ll need a sharp eye to find the resources you’re looking for — they’re often off the beaten path and blend in with their surroundings. Thankfully, each crafting skill line offers a few abilities to make this task easier.
The first is Keen Eye. This passive skill will highlight nearby resources, making it hard to miss them. As you improve this stat, the radius in which resources illuminate will slowly grow. If you love to explore each region and harvest items yourself, this is a must-have skill.
ESO also offers up another passive for each skill line — Hirelings. Spend points leveling up this skill, and you’ll find a message in your mailbox that contains various components every single day. Rank the skill up, however, and you’ll earn more frequent drops and higher quality resources.
There are going to be five crafting professions in ESO:
Armorsmith – Creates light, heavy and medium armor of all types.
Weaponsmith – Creates various types of weapons.
Provisioner – Creates various types of food and drink items.
Alchemist – Creates potions of all types.
Enchanter – Creates glyphs, staffs and jewelry of all types. Glyphs are enchantments that go on items.
Crafting Skills
Crafting skills allow you to unlock new possibilities within every profession. They can be found at the skills tab. You don’t receive special crafting points for leveling these abilities. You need to spend your general skill points in order to learn the skills of any profession. That means you will have to distribute points attentively – if you spend all your points in crafting you will probably be weak on the battlefield.
You have no limitations on how to spend points. Moreover, there are no limits on how many professions you can master. Just make sure you have enough skill points and materials. Such mechanics allows one character to master all professions in the game.
Leveling Tips
Every profession has independent Experience bar and can be leveled from 1st up to the 50th level. 50th rank is the cap value. You can't advance higher than this cap. Higher Ranks allow you to receive access to new Skills. For example Blacksmith can use high level ores and receive more resources from deconstructing.
You will receive Experience for most crafting action. You gain XP when you create something and you also gain XP when you deconstruct. Here is information that will allow you to understand how to advance faster:
Creating an item is not always the best way to advance. If the profession allows to deconstruct - don't ignore this opportunity. We advice to deconstruct all the items you can. If the profession doesn't allow to deconstruct - the only way to level it up is to craft again and again.
Deconstructing items, created by other players, is the best way to level up the profession. You will receive tons of experience points. That's why it's great to exchange with other players.
Quality of an item affects the experience you receive from deconstructing it. "White" armor, weapon and so on gives less experience than "Blue" or "Yellow".
Level of an item also affects the amount of XP you get from decostructing. It's always great to destroy Veteran Rank items.
