Blizzard revealed that Blizzard's active monthly users has dramatically dropped compared to time last year. Despite the lower number of players, revenue for Blizzard rose 7% year over year, in part thanks to players "participation in value-added activities," i.e. microtransactions.
The announcement of the Burning Crusade Classic's release time ought to have been cause to be a cause for celebration and excitement within the community of players, however, the news that was released has some players concerned about the changes and microtransactions Blizzard will add next.
World of Warcraft Rogue Breakdown and Open World Features
Despite the dip in player growth Blizzard's financial results were solid. Revenue grew 77% over the course of the year mostly due to World of Warcraft and specifically WoW's Shadowlands expansion.
" World of Warcraft saw significant engagement, reach, and engagement in value-added services, and significant number of new players joining in for the first-time, enhanced by initiatives designed to improve the player experience upon joining," Activision Blizzard said.
Activision Blizzard defines monthly active users as the amount of players in one particular game in any specified month. The figure is calculated through adding up the amount of active monthly players in all the months of a given period, and then dividing the result by three.
"For Blizzard, an individual who accesses the same game on two devices or platforms during the period of time would usually be considered to be one user," Activision Blizzard said.
This is not the case for Activision and King. Due to "technical limitations" a player who plays the identical game on two different platforms or devices is considered to be two players. Activision Blizzard also cautioned that certain of
cheap WOTLK Gold its data originates from third parties.
